these two (2) trees are in a public park I've visited and I don't understand what is happening to them or why?
Are they sick? They seem to be losing their bark higher up. Any help understanding would be greatly appreciated!
Also, what are they? my plant app says Platanus hybrida, but I have no clue how accurate it is.

They are London Plane Trees (Platanus x acerifolia). That is what their bark naturally looks like.
