Our two evergreen trees have gotten too big and tall. Is there a way to prune them without hiring a professional or removing completely?

Obviously there is but you needing to ask means you should just hire a professional this will cost you like 300-400 bucks

Spend the money and you will be very happy in the end. The injury from a ladder is not worth it.

Those look like arborvitae. If that’s the case, then NO. You can’t just prune them. Arborvitae only have green at the surface, and if you cut that off, you’re left with dead brown spots.

I would cut them and the small tree in front down. Start over with plants that will either grow to the correct mature size for the space (juniper) OR can handle harder pruning (yew). If you like the small tree, replant one just 5ft further from the house.

If you like the concept then just rip out. out and duplicate smaller scale.

The evergreens are sited too close to the house. As has been said, remove them and replace with smaller upright plants to flank the entry. Prune back or replace the plant under dormer window.

I think they need to be pulled. They’re overgrown.

Yeah rip them out and plant a smaller arb or narrow evergreen lots of “narrow” types.

Could add some color too. A few incrediballs would look great in years time

They look so beautiful. Leave them be or have them trimmed/shaped a little.

I’m sorry to be harsh but this is just a train wreck. The landscaping was poorly thought out initially, too much too close to the house, and has not been properly maintained. At this point any major reduction is impossible and your best course is to remove them. The maple in the foreground has mulch piled up far too deep around the trunk (it should not be in direct contact with the trunk at all). You need to hire a good professional but be careful because the industry is rife with incompetents

Why do people fight having shade & privacy at nearly every turn?
