    I sat for 30 minutes next to my aster today. So many native bees and pollinators that it looked like it was moving. Might be my favorite new native.

    Lucky! My goldenrods are all going nuts but none of my asters are ready yet.

  6. I’d love aster season if it didn’t come with shorter days and cool nights as a sign of things to come…

    …but I did put in a bunch of them this spring that have grown quite aggressively and are about to pop a few hundred flowers. *one* opened up last weekend as a scout bloom. I got seeds from both pink and purple NE asters and planted a potted Smooth Blue aster for contrast.

    I had no idea asters were so late blooming! I thought my Douglas aster was just confused because I planted it late this year. It was a nice surprise.
