I planted a Chinese pistache back in spring (southeast usa, zone 9) and since then it's grown probably ~2ft over the course of the summer. It continues to show new growth near the top, and the middle limbs look pretty happy, but the bottom limbs look pretty dry and sickly.
When I first planted it I watered it daily, though after about 3 months I changed to watering it roughly every other day (unless it rains which i just count as a watering).
Any ideas what might be happening? The new growth makes me think it's happy but the lower branches drying out says it's not.
Thanks!

It’s young and you just planted it.
More important is the topic of the standard obligatory comment: the nursery stake is removed at planting time.
Not a pro, but I think we should probably take a look at the base of that tree.
NQA but we have a fully grown chinese pistache.
When i was looking up more info about its care, alot of articles said that it can look very awkward in its adolescence with the way grows, but gets nicer and fuller as it gets older. Id keep a strong eye on it to see if it starts to go down here with the quickness, maybe 2 weeks? but theres a chance that it might be a little goofy looking because its still so young.
