Maybe not a good idea, but he looked like he was napping and it was hard to resist.

At least I think it was a "he."

Worker bees are all female. I like how she flapped a leg at you like saying “STAHP I’M WORKING” 😂

  2. Workers are exclusively female. drones have a singular purpose ,and if they aren’t fulfilling that, they are a waste of resources (as winter approaches in honey bee hives, any remaining drones that don’t leave to mate are literally eaten).

i pet bees in flowers all the time. it’s hard to resist like you said! but most animals do not perceive human touch as affection or a good thing. Domesticated animals have learned through generations and generations of human interaction that petting feels good and is a sign of affection and bonding. Wild animals view these things as attacks, threats, dangerous etc. so while carpenter bees and bumblebees are generally very docile and gentle creatures that can be pet like this, the leg kick is basically saying that she thinks something is on her/bothering her and she’s trying to push it off. if you keep going, she’ll buzz her wings aggressively as a warning. any further and she might remind you that most bees can bite and some can sting.

not trying to discourage and saying you can’t! i pet them often. i just know the pet is for my enjoyment, and i do it quick to touch their soft yellow hair and then leave them bee 😉

I read a book by a botanist who said to do this when they’re still asleep in the morning

I get the attraction of touching/petting wildlife but really, they are better off left alone.

My son is constantly trying to pet bumbles, grasshoppers, spiders but not dogs.

I don’t like it when someone, usually my husband, interrupts my naps either.

Honestly, I would say you succeeded!! 😂😂😂

I gave a bee a little high five once and thanked her for her work.

I’ve definitely done this before. Probably not a great idea but bumble bees are pretty chill. I wouldn’t try the same with a yellow jacket or paper wasp though!
