First time owner. I got her for my birthday a few months ago. I named her Eve. She has been thriving in my work office. I'm heartbroken… I had 2 bloom stems full of blooms and while I was out sick someone cut them and took them. They cut a few of the roots too. What can I do to help her recover from her assault.
Ps she is coming home with me tonight to live safely away from these animals.

Aside from the emotional damage, the plant itself didn’t suffer much!
If anything, it will get stronger because it takes so much from the plant to bloom and keep the blooms alive. Take it home, give it good care, and you’ll see a spike in a year đ
Wtf!!! I sincerely hope you reported this to HR. It’s literally damage to your personal possession?
Who does just a thing?đĄ Not much to do now, plant will recover.
Thatâs horrible that someone did such a thing.. she will be okay though rest assured đ
Ugh that sucks. Sheâll come back even more beautiful
Iâm really sorry to hear this OP, thatâs awful. Sounds like you have a true asshole in your workplace unfortunately
As upsetting as this is right now, the good news is that this wonât have done any long term harm to your plant. Just focus on continuing to grow it well (which you must have been doing judging by how well your plant looks and the fact that it created 2 full spikes) and next year youâll get to enjoy new spikes at home in peace
This is one reason I could never work in an office. I would be going around freaking out and loudly yelling for the perpetrator to reveal themselves.Â
If that didn’t work – HR
If HR is unhelpful I would be talking to a lawyer. Fuck this person
That merits a company wide email reminding employees not to destroy their coworkers’ belongings
Are there cameras in your office? If not, I would be tempted to buy a small one and put it where it points toward your orchid. Only if itâs legal and all that, of course. Because I would want to know who the perpetrator is.
Um thatâs destruction of personal property and you should absolutely raise this to someone in charge because thatâs BS that someone would get away with that
Take her home where she’ll be safe đ
Plain diabolical. My hope is that maybe they wilted while you were out sick and someone tried to do some clean up… mostly because the idea of cutting orchid blooms to put them in a vase is upsetting.
Though I just noticed in your second pic that some of the cut roots are on your desk???? What??
Everyone has already given you the best advice, so I wonât bother to repeat it! Well except for the cinnamon, thatâs something I swear by as well!!! But it was probably some idiot that is completely ignorant of what it takes to keep an orchid. And def of how long we wait for these blooms! Maybe they were dumb enough to think you could propagate with the stems? Or roots? Or both?
The sad part is unless you have a HR manager that is a flower-plant person, they will prob be just as ignorant to the situation. They may even think youâre being âdramaticâ or a âproblem,â etc. I hope you come back and tell us differently of coarse, so please, keep us updated!
Good luck!
Abusive psychopaths hurt plants. I hope OP is okay.
I would be in HR so fast..
What is wrong with people??!
Find them & slap them. Nobody has the right to touch your things! Much less do them harm.
Seriously put a note on it saying thank you for denying us beautiful blooms & endangering the health of MY plant. Keep your hands off!
I just want to say I’m sorry you experienced this.
Probably some thoughtless person wanting to propagate from her cuttings.
I’m sorry I don’t have an answer to help her.
But I always had faith in love and care and my plants thrived.
Someone pulled dead flowers off my plant ONCE.
And they left the roots they cut just lying there??? Cutting the bloom to steal is shitty enough but perhaps just extremely selfish. Cutting the roots and leaving them there is clearly malicious and serves no gain to the perpetrator other than satisfaction from destroying something of yours and rubbing it in your face. I would say you have an enemy in your office, and I second the other people saying you should put up a camera and set out another decoy plant to try and catch them. Who knows what else they might do?
Thats soo sad, sorry to hear. Good news is the blooms take up soo much energy that your plant will thrive moving forward. I sometimes remove spikes on my plants if I want to promote quicker growth and more blooms next season. Your plant looks very healthy, I think she will thrive a lot next blooming cycle đ
