Just needed to share my sadness somewhere it could be understood!

I’m so ridiculously angry with myself. I tried to pull a dying flower from the stalk and ended up breaking the whole thing off! I can’t believe it was this dumb and careless!

I feel like crying, she was such a beautiful orchid 😭😭 I rescued her from my local corner shop, when I got her she had one leaf and no flowers at all. Can’t believe I broke her, this sucks!

It’s frustrating indeed – but tbh, the days of those flowers were numbered anyway. This orchid doesn’t have the energy to support them. Now you can focus on the plant’s health, which seems rather poor. The leaves look dehydrated and there are only two, with only one at the core. Those flowers were definitely a big strain on the phal that already was on its last legs, in situations like this it’s better not to let the orchid bloom at all. Check the roots for rot, make sure there’s no sponge plug underneath the core. Give it a garlic water bath (all my orchids love the stuff), fertilize regularly and hope it recovers – which it might not, so best be prepared for the possibility.

Cut the spike one inch above the top node. Chances are she will rebloom for you! 🫂❤️ I am a klutz. I ruined many flowers, by dropping pots, over fertilizing, too much sun and whatnot. Its sad, I try to be more careful now when they are in bloom.☹️

I’m so sorry! I’ve done the same thing myself, so I understand the disappointment!

  4. Put the flowers in a vase and focus on watering those poor dehydrated leaves!

I would use somekind of ducktape and tape it back.

Im sorry OP, that sucks 🙁 it’s best to always let the blooms drop of their own accord

Am I seeing it wrong or is this spike growing directly from the crown of the plant? (aka a terminal spike) If it is a terminal spike the main plant will be unable to grow any further leaves unfortunately – which it could really do with

As for the broken flower spike, might as well put the flowers in a vase of water and maybe cut the spike back to a lower node to see if it will create a few more blooms if you want to. I would only cut the spike back to encourage more blooms if this is a terminal spike and the plant is doomed anyway though…if the spike isn’t terminal you might do better to just remove the spike completely and let the plant focus its energy into new foliage and root growth

I feel the pain of this to my very core!!! I had an orchid that put out flower spikes and buds for the first time in maybe 4 or 5 years. I was EXSTATIC but had to move cross country and despite my absolute best efforts….. SNAP 😭 it’s been two years since and no new spikes. 😭😭😭

It’ll grow back stronger! Someone raising a show plant would’ve already cut that off no hesitation in order to focus on leaf and root growth. Don’t worry!

Blessing in disguise. Your orchid is dying and can’t support flowers right now anyways. Cut off allll the spikes and then give better photos of the leaves and sides of the clear pot.

Never mind it will flower again. Just put it in a small vase and enjoy it
