Renovations started to germinate and in 5 days, I have to go out of town for two weeks for an emergency. I’m screwed aren’t I?

  1. You’ll be fine as long as you do the rain dance every six hours while you’re away. That should keep the precipitation gods happy.

How will it be watered? That’s the only concern.

Best bet is if you have time to set up a hose timer like Lunar was saying. That’s what I do. set up hoses and sprinklers around the area (if you need multiple) and then have them go off 3-4 times a day for like 5-7 minutes. That’ll save you A LOT of headache

Do what you can with some extra hoses and timers. If you can’t cover all of it, at least set up for the largest/most important spots and just hope for the best everywhere else. Only so much you can do.

Could get a couple hose sprinklers with a timer. Or ask a neighbor or pay a kid to water

Can you not pay a neighbor to water for you?

  7. All those rocks and woodchips are a bigger concern. You might want to rake when you get back and start over.

Hose on a timer. Otherwise, hope & pray.

OR throw a bunch more seed down just in case and see how it does.. two weeks won’t make or break this. You can overseed (again) if it doesn’t thrive

That germination looks great, minus the rocks.

It’s time to call in the troops and see who can water it while you’re away. It needs lots of consistent watering at this point and is on track to being a lush lawn. I’d hate to see it fail now.

The comma is not needed after ‘5 days’

Worst case scenario, spread some peat moss on it and pray for rain.

The peat might be a good idea regardless, as it will be difficult to have a kid properly water multiple times a day.

Good luck – you seem to have found the same “screened” top soil I found.

Let nature take it’s course. You’ll be fine.

Orbit programmable hose timer. You can program it just like a professional sprinkler system.

Dont know what the weather is like wherever you live, but you are probably fine if there is no heat wave going on and if temps at night fall below 16-18C or so.

Did you throw seed in mulch? WTF is up with that ground?

  16. LeasAlease

Get some hoses and timers. Get one with multiple zones. I can’t imagine doing this all manually even if I was home all day and had a tiny yard.

If I were going away and leaving the water on for 2 weeks, I’d want to have a way of monitoring the house.

What did you plant, and how long did it take to see sprouts? You’ve got some green, so that’s a plus.
