This is my first plant and I’m looking for some help. I water it once a week, it’s been growing and it used to be in a west facing window. What is it trying to tell me 😢

You have a variegated plant, the white parts of the leaves are without chlorophyll so they’re going to turn brown and die eventually. If you don’t want as many white parts, you can move it farther away from light (but highly variegated plants are usually seen as more desirable!)
ETA: the yellowing on the leaves may be from over watering or under watering, it would just depend on how wet the soil is. You don’t want to keep these plants super wet all the time, they need a well-draining Airoid mix

Used to be in a west window? Why is it not anymore? Might be root rot from overwatering, especially if you recently lowered the light level. That’s usually my problem when leaves are yellowing. I would just snip off the yellow ones and try watering less.

It needs increased light exposure. Variegated plants have increased light requirements due to having less chlorophyll. If these needs are not met, the plant will senesce the white portions to reallocate the resources in that tissue. Increasing light exposure will halt this process.

Additionally, photosynthesis is a process that uses water. Plants in brighter light will dry the pot more quickly and this is optimal for root health. This could also be a factor here. 💚

The whiter leaves just don’t last long. Sorry friend

It wants to go back in that west facing window. It’s probably overwatered since the light went away.

More white on the leaves = more light it needs.

    Bring back the light 🌞
