Hi! This is a string of hearts plant. Would it be ok to cut it once it touches the ground? What would happen? I would like for the plant to give me more vines and be fuller.

If you want a fuller plant without having to chop it, you can wrap the vines around the top of the soil for them to eventually root in. You’ll lose some length but will gain fullness in the pot, and eventually it will start to trail again.

Snip-snip to propagate ✂️🌱 better with a buddy to go for a walk

Try moving her new growth to a higher elevation

You have to buy a new house with a higher ceiling !

  5. Others have given good advice. I just want to add some pictures. I’m learning as I go just like you. I’ve killed so many SoT (String of Things) but I think I’m catching on now 😁 Here’s how my prop looks. I sniped some pieces and made sure to get plenty of length in the soil (regular houseplant soil like MiracleGro). Sprayed it really well then put it in a plastic zip lock bag in a bright spot. Very little direct sun.

Here it is about a month later and I’ve already had the bag open about a week to let it dry. Not sure the string of dolphins is doing anything but I know the hearts are because they are putting out new vines and leaves!!! Yay 😁

You send it straight back up to the top!

  9. Put a tiny Lego man on it and call him Jack

It needs to be cut back, that’s not healthy growth its just long.

No hate, I honestly don’t understand the appeal of letting plants get like this. It’s impressive don’t get me wrong! But I like a full plant. So when my trailing/vining plants have a single stem that gets too long, I trim and prop and if space allows, it goes back in the soil with the mother plant. To each their own.

Take the long vines around the the pot securing at leaves
. Put rooting hormone at those spots use a spray mister to keep those connected spots damp to encourage rooting. I would not recommend cutting the stem from the stem from the plant at this time as it appears to me that plant is not living in its optimal spot. Use additional larger pot or pots to root all long stems. It will work. Best wishes

Coil the longest strands in the pot. I just did this with a bunch of trailing pothos

She looks really thin and straggly to be honest. I would wind it all the way up and pin it like a lil crown in the pot, then sprinkle a little with the soil. She’ll grow fuller, thicker strings in no time!

My string of hearts was just 3 or 4 vines so I chopped and I’m currently trying to make her a more full plant. We’ve had a horrible summer so I had somewhat neglected my plants, so now I’m doing a ton of reviving.

I would chop it and cut the chopped portion into multiple cuttings. Propagate the cuttings and put back into the pot to make it fuller.

Tell it “the floor is lava,” count down from 5 and hope it lifts its stem!

Put a sign up and politely inform the plant that there’s no soil beneath

I don’t have additional advice but I love the chair!!

String of hearts looks cool hanging in a pot, but in nature, it is a trailing plant. I would let it dangle into another pot and allow it to root before clipping it just to ensure success. This way you end up with another plant. 💚

  21. Sfagna moss works really well to propagate string of hearts. You can cut it

I’d lower the pot so it’s at window height and the soil is getting sunlight. It needs warmth and light at the soil level.

Very sparse so wrap back upwards and trellis
