Combermere Abbey walled gardens

Combermere Abbey near Nantwich will mark the arrival of autumn with a final “Garden Open Day” of the year on September 16.

The event opens the historic venue’s gardens to the public from 10am to 3pm. Tickets are available online.

Visitors can meet the abbey’s gardening A team and receive autumn gardening tips.

There will be a stall selling plants, fresh-pressed apple juice from the garden maze and other produce will be on offer.

Visitors can explore around 10 acres of the 12th Century estate’s gardens, including the six-acre Victorian Walled Gardens and Glasshouse, The Pleasure Garden with rare trees and Pempe’s Pavilion and The Garden Wood, leading down to the lake.

The restored Glasshouse, designed by Messenger in 1903, sits in the abbey’s fruit tree maze.

It is the only one of its kind in the world and was designed by the late Randoll Coate.

The Pavilion in the middle-walled garden offers a place to enjoy light refreshments while taking in the sensory pleasures of the garden.

Light refreshments and free parking is available, including an EV charger on site.

Dogs and picnics are not permitted. Tickets are £8.50 and pre-booking is required.
