I have a Tree of Heaven hanging over my garden, and after some reading it seems like these things are universally hated and bad for our local ecosystem (Colorado).

It’s quite a bit beefier than it was last year, probably 5 inches in diameter at the base. Should I drill a few holes near the base and poison it before it’s too late? I read that early fall is the time to do it. Thanks, friendly tree people.

  1. Yes, with poison. I’m pulling up shoots from a tree that was cut down 2 years ago.

  2. Yup. Invasive. Poison it, shoot it, burn it when you’re done

Basal bark applications provide a target-specific method for treating tree-of-heaven that are generally less than 6 inches in basal diameter. Using a low-volume backpack sprayer, a concentrated mixture of herbicide containing the ester formulation of triclopyr in oil is applied from the ground line to a height of 12 to 18 inches, completely around the stem. To maximize translocation to the roots, apply herbicides from mid- to late summer.

I use a foam paint brush instead of sprayer.

This comment section gave me an idea for a movie…

Resident Treevil: Tree of heaven spliced with Bradford pear.

Opening scene “It smells like cum….. everywhere….”

YES, and make sure you rip it all out, roots and all

Nuke it from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.
