The good thing is that it’s so close to the building and the limbs are so sprawling that it won’t have space to gather momentum before impact, so it would likely just sort of slowly sit on the house rather than come crashing through.
People underestimate how much momentum matters, and they sometimes will make trees more dangerous by removing limbs and creating lots of space between the tree and the object it’s going to fall on.

So much tree over the house, that they said forget even installing gutters

I’m wondering how much the root structure is underneath the foundation causing shifting issues

Just get up there with a chainsaw and start trimming! And see what goes on after that.

Some states/counties/cities have laws regarding “heritage” trees, and some of those areas also have some sort of wording that if the tree poses a public safety hazard it is no longer protected (usually requires an arborist certification or other form of accreditation along with a report stating why it’s a hazard). You’d have to look it up for wherever your located

Is that a Live Oak? It looks like it. They are very strong. That said, I’d be very concerned with that hanging over my head. It’s odd that it wasn’t removed many years ago.

If it were my property, as mush as I’d hate it, it’s coming down! I’m sorry.

Only 20 years too late on removing this 🤷🏻♂️
How in the world do they even have insurance on the house? They very much *will not* cover damage if/when this does happen.

I’d be honored to be killed by a 200yr old oak randomly falling on me rather than by a gunman at the grocery store. (Though the odds of a tree killing me are much, much less!)

One day the branches will fall and destroy part of the house and will cost ten of thousands to repair.
If it is mine, I would cut the whole tree even it costs a lot. Just trimming years after years would add up.

Man thats incredible….I wonder where the roots are going in relation to the foundation….but at this point I doubt the roots impact the foundation.. The guy that commented on “momentum” is spot on gravity is a mofo….

Thats incredible. I wonder what the roots are doing currently to the foundation…I see brick repair probably due to shifting from the roots. The one comment talking about “momentum” is correct. Gravity is a mofo.
