  2. I agree with everything you say in my experience including the dimensions. An additional point to your argument for using treated wood my teacher; we use copper based fungicide sprayed on our plants and even if you don't surely you eat vegetables from the grocery store or restaurants that HAVE been sprayed with copper fungicides:) One extra building point for these is that I have found that the addition of a metal corner bracket placed on the inner corners makes them very strong. Also consider placing a 1×4 brace in the middle temporarily while moving into position and filling so they don't move out of square or bow. Also to his point about roots guys, I have learned that roots can also come IN from large trees can travel long distances and invade your bed robbing them of water and nutrients; effectively killing your beds for growing. I had to add metal flashing as root shields around three of my beds that had oak trees over 30 + feet away.

  3. So what you are saying is plant Kale as a trap crop to get the flies away from everything else. Got it. Lol

  4. I’ve never had much luck with containers or raised beds. I really like the concept but my soil mix would be 100% of the dirt in my garden heavily mulched with straw like my no till garden has been the past 10+ years. I’ve spent a small fortune on bagged soils which seem more wood than dirt , peat or anything actually 😂. I think the most important element of growth is dirt. Those bags of topsoil they sell aren’t dirt at all. They don’t turn into mud if you add water😂.. Great video!

  5. My local nursery has cheap starters. So I have been buying transplants. Then do succession planting by seed. Sometimes, I just don't have time to start seeds. My local nursery also makes their own soil. I have been buying cheap stuff and like you showed in your other video it's been all wood mostly. So now I pay a little extra for the good. stuff. I grow in containers and soil type really makes a difference. I freeze my kale, Swiss chard and bok choy.
Can't wait to see your new garden set up.

  6. Hi
I live in the South of New Zealand. I have a big problem with my tomatoes. They get a fungal disease in the stems.
It appears firstly low down the migrates up the plant. This will kill my tomatoe plants very quickly.
They literally rot right through the stem.
Have you seen this and what do I do for the coming season

  7. I’m excited to see this video. I too like only a 3 foot garden in The because I think 4 foot is too much and I don’t have enough space all the time so I’m gonna enjoy this one Gary thank you.💚🌱🌱🌱 (Houston,Tx)

  8. You are still very young, talking about 12" is to help you later on! I'm 3 years younger and went for the 29" metal bed for my first raised bed. 😂 I've been spending too much money on the grandchild and so will stay with my one raised bed next year and just add some Greenstalks and more buckets/grow bags next year. I will consider 2 ft. wide beds in the future.
