Pittsburgh, PA. Growing in my backyard. My 2 y/o daughter ate at least 1 berry. Trying to figure out if it’s poisonous or not. Thanks

Bittersweet nightshade, Solanum dulcamara. It is poisonous.

Bittersweet nightshade? Take your baby to the hospital to be certain.

I can tell it a glance that is in the nightshade family, and very likely to be poisonous. How poisonous, I don’t know. If I were you, I would do a plant ID photo check, I think Google does it, there are apps, I would call POISON CONTROL and then ask them what to do

Solanine levels are higher in unripe berries. I would take her to the doctor ASAP. If she had more than the one berry that you saw, she might have consumed a toxic amount.

Those berries are green (unripe) which means they are more toxic than ripened ones (also toxic). If it were my daughter I’d be going for a some activated charcoal and some coconut oil or stomach pumping. Go to the doctor and bring some of the berries.

Either induce vomiting, bring her to the emergency room or call 911 or at least poison control immediately.

Call the Poison Comtrol Center for steps to take with your daughter.

  8. Please remove these plants from your yard!!

Yes, black nightshade, poison in high levels. How much has to be eaten to actually be dangerous is up for debate

Make sure to teach her not to eat random things she finds!

Looks like bittersweet nightshade, 13 berries will kill a person go to the hospital asap

  12. The hospital would be best considering her age. I ate a ripe one at 3 (less poisonous than non ripe) and had to get my stomach pumped. An emergency clinic, if you have them, would work as well.

  13. Couldn’t have tasted very good as a green berry. I assume your daughter would have spit it out. They are pretty tasty when they turn black.

Probably need to make a doctors appointment

It looks to me like a creeping vine in the nightshade family, that is extremely poisonous. I hope your daughter is alright, best wishes to you both!

Poor little girl is never going to trust a berry again. 😢

Please call poison control and make sure it connects you with the state/region you live in so they can correctly help you identify its toxicity.

Is this real? Why ask reddit about possible poisoning? Get to a doctor. Call poison control.
