  1. Again you saved the day and I have to thank you for your help. I planted a hummingbird lunch plant that I just ordered in a turquoise planter thinking it was from the $ store. Went outside and found out it was a dark pot that I painted and my plant is growing great. I would have been just sick if my plant would have died.Haven't used the ice buckets yet, and thanks to you, I'll be using the cardboard trick. By the way, the hummers love their new plant. You're great. Happy gardening.

  2. I haven’t gotten to DT yet to get those, but picked one up at DG. Working great as a fountain though.

  3. ❤🌺🥬🥦🌻 Thank you Robbie 😊 for the time put into the search and study of the see through gardening pots, nice work detective 🤭 God bless your heart ❤

  4. I can’t find an email for Robbie as I was hoping she could put a statement out on one of her bird videos, so I’ll just put it here:
I’ve seen a lot of garden “art” videos that are suggesting that you put a large mirror in your garden. I tried that in the early ‘90’s…looked so cool…BUT after finding two dead birds at the base of it, it came down immediately. Birds cannot tell that it’s not open space and they crash into it, just like some windows. Please folks…don’t put large mirrors in your garden!

  5. It all makes a lot of sense. The only clear pots I have are for orchids. 😊 I see many people using cardboard and I've always wondered how safe it would be to use in the garden, I only use bits and pieces, mostly the inserts from toilet paper and paper towel.

  6. Robbie I just love your passion for nature and plants and your heart. I found your channel a short while ago and you are the sweetest thing! You find joy and beauty in everything. I love how much you care for nature and for animals. Such a treasure. I’m hooked and have been watching ever since. 🥰

  7. Thank you so much for this info. I'm growing plants in clear gallon bottles and maybe that's why some of them have suddenly died. I'll wrap them into something, some cloth like you've show us how to do with the synthetic leggings you used to cover pots and make them look nice. I've also seen people wrap clear bottles in alluminium foil, but I thought it was just to avoid the growth of algae that would rob the plant of nutrients.

  8. I also have a problem with big ceramic pots. They're expensive, but I got one gifted to me last year, so I planted my beautiful young hydrangea in it. Well, we had a record-breaking hot summer, and I believe that the sun cooked the roots; baked them like an oven. RIP, hydrangea 😢🥵🏵

  9. Great info! Thanks for your great videos! I always learn from them.
I am morphing your container setup with self-wicking beds. 1 person said algae will grow inside of white or clear self wicking containers. He said you should paint them black (to block the sunlight), then you can paint them other colors.
I saw permanent adhesive vinyl @ the dollar store.
I decided to cover white buckets with different adhesive vinyl. It seems cheaper + quicker than paint. I don't know how well it will weather, but I am having fun mixing different colors/patterns.
Also, your using fabric on the outside of your trash cans would block the sunlight as long as it is dark fabric.

  10. Hi Robbie! Thank you so much for this video! I had bought a couple of those ice buckets and have been using them as plant pots. I think the reason I haven't noticed the issue is because I bought a navy blue one and a medium tone green one. Using the blue one for red potatoes and the green one for some ginger. So far so good, but good to know about the lighter colored ones or any lighter colored plastic pot for that matter. I do tend to reuse our yogurt containers, which are white, as mini plant pots. But that is just until the plant gets a bit bigger and then I plant it in a different pot or in the ground. Still…. I'm going to be more mindful of growing in those white yogurt containers too, or maybe paint them or put them inside a darker container. Very good to know. Thank you again for all your investigative work. 😊

  11. Hi Robbie, hope you and Gary are doing well. Omg beautiful butterflies. Great video as always. Thank you 🎉❤

  12. Went to Sea World this past Saturday. They had Cupea all over the place. Wanted to take some cuttings, but I didn't think they would survive the trip back home. Also there were monarchs all over the place. Must be migrating to Mexico. It was so beautiful there.

  13. Nurseries now use pots of all colors and even clear ones now. I reuse them over and over when ever I need to pot them up. Someone gave me a pineapple plant in a tall black pot that they whitewashed and it is so pretty!
I am thinking of doing that with black pots and dry brushing with different colors!

  14. I wish plant nurseries would accept their black pots and reuse them. I suspect they don't want to go through the hassle of cleaning and sanitizing them. I'm also surprised California doesn't have some sort of legislation about the plastics used for the black pots. That state, of all states, has such strict environmental regulations. Yes, I live here too.

  15. Great point! I grew in some of the ice buckets and had no problem, but I'm in the PNW and placed them in the shade. The issue I had with them was how soft the plastic is and moving them would disturb the roots. Whenever I got a gap, I'd just add more soil or cococoir. I'm so glad you made this video because I was thinking to put some more together.

  16. Great info, thank you! I did have to watch the video twice because at about the 2:03 mark I was distracted by the lizard on the wall! All the beautiful butterflies were fun to watch, too. Don't worry, I got the message about the pots!
