Despite recent legal controversies, Roblox continues to exhibit unabated growth, having shattered user records after achieving an unexpected 47.4 million concurrent players in August 2025.

The player figures were revealed via internal data shared by Roblox Strategy Consultant James Purell via a LinkedIn post. Purell mentioned that this breakout milestone was achieved by two of its most popular games, Steal a Brainrot and Grow a Garden, having a friendly rivalry also dubbed by many as a banter-filled ‘Admin War’.

Grow a Garden in particular attracted 20 million concurrent players, and Steal a Brainrot pulled in 21.1 million users, later climbing to 22.3 million according to community reports. However, this record-high engagement is attributed to an intense “Admin War” between the creators of Steal a Brainrot and Grow a Garden, where banter between the two developers drew in millions to their respective games on Roblox.

Purell praised the developers and commented, “These developers are creating the content that keeps 47M people engaged.” Roblox has been growing as a platform with 380 million active users per month, a 23.3% increase from early 2024 to mid-2025.

However, this milestone comes amid controversy over player safety, as Roblox is facing 300 lawsuits from parents and authorities, including the Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, who filed a high-profile lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the platform of child endangerment through inadequate safety implementations.

The lawsuit in Louisiana did cause Roblox’s stock price to take a hit, causing a sharp decline when it was made public, but the company has since seen a moderate recovery in the aftermath, with it cruising considerably higher than its lows from last week.

However, similar cases have also come to light in states like Michigan, involving a 10-year-old girl and a 13-year-old victim in St. Louis, for example. Despite the backlash and the restriction of the platform in countries like China, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Turkey, Roblox’s user base continues to build up. Its online gaming platforms continue to attract millions of players due to game creation tools and sandbox gameplay, allowing for a variety of playstyles for its target audience.

While shareholders can hope that Roblox continues to implement adequate safety features and actively communicates with law enforcement and users, committed to keeping the platform safe for underage players.

The platform, however, has doubled down on labeling such 3rd-party users as “vigilantes,” claiming that they are engaging in simulated child endangerment, despite multiple online communities disagreeing with the platform’s stance.
