I think it’s an Areca palm? Not sure. But it’s got scorched ends on a bunch of the fronds but overall still seems healthy, just visually blemished.

What is it and what does it need to be its best self?

A bigger pot, and I would probably cut those longer leaves that are dangling out, cut at base

It needs to go back in the dumpster. Unless you live in a jungle/rain forest this palm won’t be happy.

Beware of pests as well – I always tossed these years ago bc they were spider mite magnets.

It’s a parlor palm. I have plenty of these.

Make sure there aren’t any pests. You can cut off the dying leaves or leave them untill they die off fully. Water when needed. I sometimes mist them with a regular spray. They can tolerate both heavy and moderate light. Yellowing of leaves sometimes means they are getting too much light. No need to change the position unless it burns. They sometimes turn their leaves yellow because of the excess light. Not an issue unless there is burning

These are honestly terrible indoor plants.

  6. It needs gallons of water every day. It has to be in a spot where the pot can drain.

A metric ton of humidity. I have a fern zone, I run two of the big VIVOSUN humidifiers. Ferns take constant care if you’re not in their native environment. Not that they aren’t beautiful when they’re healthy, I just wouldn’t invest in humidifiers for one parlor palm unless I knew I had more ferns moving it.

To go back to the dumpster. Those are really bad indoor plants, and big box stores pump them out because they look neat for a month then turn into brown, dead stalks. I’d chuck it for bug worries, but it’s just a bastard of an indoor plant too. Not worth the hassle.

You really need to isolate that from your other plants or it’s going to get them infested
