Repotted this Costco orchid a week ago and the roots look like this now and the leaves feel a bit floppy, time for a good 15 minute soak?

Absolutely! Silver water, green leave it be!

Yes! Time for a good soak! Given how chunk this bark is, I’d even go for 30+ minutes.

Yes, that looks pretty dry. That’s a very chunky bark, so if you find dehydration is an ongoing problem, mixing in about 15% sphagnum will help a lot.

I normally recommend better-gro special mix. In the speical mix, the bark is smaller and it has perlite and charcoals. Also, these bark need pre-soak before repotting. I soak mine at least 2 days before so that it can thoroughly absorb water and break the initial surface hardness to make future watering easier.

Yes! That is the look that says “Water me!”.

When I get a new orchid, I wait several weeks IF I see a repot is necessary a she is already shocked from the move to my orchid table … I will repot sooner if she is too big for her pot. I have tried bark but too much bark leaves mine thirsty. I like to use a mix w plenty of moss bc it holds water.

Just needs to be watered, no soaking required

If the orchid you got was in full moss, then changing it to full bark can be very dehydrating. I went through the same with one of my Phals 😭 so I went back and added moss like 50/50, and it’s doing better. Also the bark in the picture looks very large in size to retain enough moisture.

Waaaaay past needing a soak. Don’t let them get that dry. Those are dehydrated roots.

It looks like it’s all bark from your photo. I would probably add some moss to keep more moisture in but otherwise, you could probably water it every day if it’s all bark because it doesn’t hold enough moisture inside as is.
