The central plant died so I needed to fill some space for this scud/snail jar.


This tall thin fresh water jar is home to scuds and snails. There was a plant that ended up dying.

I was cleaning the algae out and wondered if I had anything that could fill the empty space.

    It looks nice!

    Bad news is that without a plant, it won’t last since it’s basically the natural filter and provides food for the critters. Scuds and snails live off decaying matter, so everything that dies is food for them.

    Is this the vase’s permanent spot? Direct sunlight causes algae growth which out-competes useful plants. Keep it in the shade.
