Welcome, gardeners! Almost exactly two years ago, award-winning landscape designer Michael Glassman visited our home and completely transformed our vision for the garden. During that first design consultation, Michael walked through the property with us, sharing ideas and unlocking the full potential of our outdoor space.
Now, two years later, Michael is back for an updated garden design consult, and we couldn’t be more excited! Seeing our garden through his expert eyes again is inspiring, and we can’t wait to share the new ideas and possibilities he’s bringing to life! 🤩 Enjoy!

Michael Glassman you are the man!!!!
Where are your bird feeders?
💚💚💚Michael Glassman is a genius!! What a wonderful friend!💚💚💚
This video is the best! The enthusiasm and ideas! I love it!
No, wait!!! Okay, so when you are looking at the espaliered wall and the thuja in the pot on the right, I know what Michael said… What about putting the second pot of thuja off the planter bed onto the checkerboard, right next to the metal border, on the left of it. Bonus, you don't have to move the little grass! Or even, move the new thuja in its pot to the very far left on the checkerboard and put in three topiaries??! Of course I am totally partial to roses in topiaries. There are David Austin rose topiaries out there… OMGosh! Anyway, that's my thought. Run it by Michael Glassman.
Someday when you have to rebuild the front yard patio cover, replace those 5"x5" posts with 8"x8" ones, they are more substantial, (and look weightier) can take more weigh, in case you put a climbing bougainvillea up there (what i used to do on our structures in Murrieta, CA ~ miss them!!!). Look up the general's house on Camp Pendleton, CA, and check out the 100 year old bougainvillea covering part of the Spanish style house there… Stunning! Where I got my bougy ideas. Excited for you!!! Happy changing and planting! 🪴💞
I LOVE the idea of a test/experimental garden with the sign! Genius idea especially for those of us gardeners who plan to stay in our homes for the long term.
I think you need a small bridge over the rock stream. Right in the area where Michael has the future bench.
Why not just remove the front deck and keep it at ground level? Then the second sliding door that you want to remove will still be functional, saving you money on changing to a window, and saving money on not needing new decking material. Just add a couple stairs down from the center sliding door, and maybe a small deck in the front door alcove out to the front house wall.
loved Michael's ideas regarding natives…etc. thank you for sharing
Michael really is a genius! This was awesome seeing both of you collaborate
Will Michael come to KY?
Man, I wish I was as creative as MG. That testing garden is fantastic. Its like end caps at the grocery store.
How do we get in touch with Michael for design consults?! We just moved into a nearly 50 year old home in northern CA zone 9b that has mature landscaping (tall trees, mostly shade!!) but now I’m having to learn how to add interest in a mostly shady landscape, which I’ve never done before! I’m lusting over those gorgeous layered, windy shade landscapes with all the colorful foliage…. But like you, where to start?! Love your channel! ❤
I'd love a tour of Michael Glassman's yard!
Janie, Michael is so right on the giant rock fountain. I second his suggestion. I recently saw one on a garden tour. I took so many pictures of a rock. 🙂 It was stunning and natural. You can have someone drill it for you and do the pondless.
A pleasure to see M.G. in your garden!
We ❤ Michael!
Italian cypress are squirrel hotels. 😂
Michael is so wonderful!!!! 💕
Loved this SO much! Such wonderful ideas and so fun, Janey. Michael brings such energy and the two of you are so enjoyable to watch. 💚
From the Willow Garden to the orange trees garden to the zig zag planters V2 on your map part of the driveway if you do not use that part of the driveway for vehicles reduce it inside now you have more planting space and make it a walking path and it would be less money when you go to finish the driveway
Yes please…I'd love to learn how to have flowers like yours.
It really is amazing how much you have accomplished in 2 years.
Congratulations 🎉
A pondless waterfall in front of the gazebo would be nice.
What a wonderful transformation to your property! You have done a wonderful job with advice from Michael. Beautiful.
Clone Michael please❤
Look at the zig zag planter!!!!!!!!!! I'm so inspired by you.
I feel like you should add large boulders at the entry with more levels for the garden
Michael is completely right on the need for video on how you care for your PROVEN WINNERS SUPERTUNIAS because all of my supertunias eventually get the plague or bug or sickness and I have to replace them. They do their great flowering show but then the flowering starts to die out and the plant doesn’t look pretty anymore.
One area for Janie’s “Best of the West” all together!
I wish you would do a few episodes of viewers showing their yards and you and Micheal just talking about what you guys would do if it was your yard
I love the enthusiasm Janie! Great idea of the trial garden Michael. I would love to do the same to my problematic garden: rocky, some parts – clay, mostly sunny and soil is soaking wet and hard to dry out after a big rainfall and snow. I garden at zone 6B/7. How do you “ask”for trial plants?
Janey I LOVE your espalier! So in my opinion I wouldn’t add 3 tall plants across the front of it. Maybe 2 shorter tree roses or something on each end but the thujas will get large and cover the espalier up too much. It is simply elegant as it is. Small additions is all it needs if anything.
Love the energy between you and Michael.
Michael is an amazing designer!
Your garden is beautiful!
Wow! I can’t believe it’s been 2 yrs. You have transformed the property into a beautiful arboretum. It’s been fun watching it all. I have learned so much. Beautiful work!
Your garden reminds me of a coral reef with all the structures and colourful plants❤😊
Michael Glassman is truly a jewel. I always love his enthusiasm and energy while watching him go through Janey’s property. Can’t wait until part II. 👍🏻💕🇺🇸
Water feature! Somebody maybe calling Greg the pond guy.
Either way I would love to see you put in an aquascape pond or pondless.
That video is one of my favorites, too!! Thank you. Love it and love this. ❤
Just a little thought if you end up moving that bench in the center island…what do you think about continuing that path to connect up with the pergola winding through the meadow.
Great in every sense. I would not put a plant before the Spalier, but a floorlight or something like a lantern …
How did you keep yourself from exploding! One fabulous idea followed by another even better than the last!
Oh my goodness. Please send Michael my way to our humble little home in Illinois. 😁 Wish I had a 10th of his vision for gardens, hardscape, etc..
