Surrounded by spectacular plants, great conversation, and plenty of Pimm’s, Hatch End Horticultural Society raised money for Mount Vernon Cancer Centre’s Garden Fund.
Earlier this year, broadcaster and horticulturalist Matthew Biggs held a talk for the society and shared that he was receiving treatment at Mount Vernon.
While there, he noticed the hospital garden was looking “tired and neglected” and decided to raise funds to renovate and refurbish it.
On Saturday, July 26, the society held a successful Pimm’s afternoon hosted by members Monica and Paul Gerhold in their garden in Nugents Park.
Over 120 members, friends and acquaintances joined the event and raised £800.
Honouring Monica’s wishes, the committee donated 50 per cent of the money raised and gifted £400 to Matthew to help fund the renovation.
The society is always looking for new members and has more talks and events planned throughout the year. Find out more at www.hehs.co.uk
