Yep elderberry, spent a fair amount of time last weekend collecting the berries to infuse in mead. Just remember, elderberry needs to be cooked before consuming.

Solved! Looks to indeed be Elderberry.

Dad made elderberry wine once. I wasn’t old enough to have more than a taste nor to judge the result.

There’s some growing by a creek near me and the birds will absolutely pick it clean in a day

Black elderberry makes an EXCELLENT cold & flu prevention tincture. Fill a jar with berries, drizzle on some honey, fill the jar to the top with 80 proof liquor- vodka, rum, bourbon, whatever you prefer.

Just be leery of two old ladies turning it into wine and offering you a glass. Especially if their nephew thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt.

I was told that it’s toxic when I was a kid

Black elderberry….I pick and process them every year. Pick as many as you can, comb off berries with a hair pick… rinse berries…. in a pot put berries… fill the pot with water a little over the berries…. slowly boil and reduce 1/3……squish berries through fine sleeve and filler what’s in that pot in a different pot….. add loads of honey…. fill jars to the brim…. drink all winter and not get sick!

My first glance was pokeweed too, but it definitely is not pokeweed. Nice find

Back in the 80’s my mom had a bunch growing near her chicken coop. Her friend made wine out them.

Give it a smell. Does it smell like your father?
