    I believe that’s normal. My air plants have developed that over the years as they’ve grown. You can test it by softly prying the bottom leaves. If they just flake off, then it’s rotting and I’m sorry for your loss 😭

    I personally cut the brown leaves with sharp scissors. If you pull them off you might leave the little nub “raw” and hurt the plant.

    I think it’s just the plant aging and solidifying its base. Anyway, just touch it and if it feels hard or firm, then it’s fine

    It looks fine, but sometimes, the core can be rotten. Give it a sniff! I notice an olive-like smell when sniffing ones that have died on me. Also, if you poke around the base and the leaves fall off easily, that’s a sign it’s rotting.
