My corn palm (dracaena?) is getting too tall and flimsy. I'm worried it's going to break off from the weight. How can I cut this upper "side stock" and still replant it without killing either one? I'd like to keep main trunk of the plant and hopefully another one grows out of the top. I'm not too concerned about propagating the bottom "side stalk" since it's not huge and at risk of breaking off. I've had this plant for years. I love it and I like it tall, but not at the risk of it breaking off. All that being said, I'm open to any options.

I give it 2 cups of water when the soil is dry to my 2nd knuckle. It could definitely use more sun, but it's still showing new growth, so it's not starving.

You can DEF turn this big guy into two medium guys! I’ve never propagated this type of dracaena, but i have a curly corn plant (same genus) that has lived as a propagation for like 3 years and has tons of roots. Hopefully someone with more dracaena knowledge responds but yes, I hesitantly believe you can! 😂

Yup, it’ll grow where you cut (we hope). Maybe with a new lease on life. The cut off part might root easily in soil or water. Good luck.

Look into air layering. You cut and allow it to develop roots while it is still attached and then cut once the roots develop. It is less stressful for them. We do it in bonsai all the time.

You can just chop and prop, too.
