I posted a couple of weeks ago about the height of a walkway I was adding to help mowing so I wouldn't have to edge around each stepping stone. However, I didn't think about how annoying it would be having these tiny rocks in my yard.

I sprayed them with rock glue, but when I edge, I still get a few that fling off into the grass. I mow low with a reel mower so I can't have anything in the grass when I mow.

Now I kind of regret getting this walkway. But I'm really new to all this so you guys tell me. Did I make a mistake or am I just doing something wrong here?

It looks like you have a border, when you edge how are you throwing the rock?

This is just something that happens with edges. If the edge is low, the mower won’t hit it, but the material will spill out. If it’s high, it will contain material but affect mowing. You’ll need to use a weedeater or another tool to knock down the leaves at the edging.

Let me start by saying you have done a fantastic job here! This looks like $1 million

You have two things going on here.
    1. You need to get something like some used bricks and
line the sides with about an inch and a half or 2 inches HIGHER THAN THE GRAVEL.
    2. My guess is that you bought that gravel at some big box store in a bag.
You really need gravel that is about the size of golf balls. That is what I use around all my air conditioning and pool equipment. YOU CAN GET THIS GRAVEL AT PLACES WHO SPECIALIZE IN LANDSCAPING MATERIAL.
    3. If you want to do this, the absolute cheapest way, buy some 4 inch or 5 inch industrial edging, and replace whatever stuff you got at Dollar General. You can go to a local Steel company who can stamp it out and they can also provide you stakes to hold it down.

YOU HAVE DONE TOO GOOD A JOB HERE NOT TO GO BACK IN AND RETROFIT THE EDGES OF THE WALKWAY WITH SOME SORT OF RIGID EDGING. If you go, the brick route, you just don’t lay it on top of the ground. You have to dig a trench and stand the bricks up, putting about half of them below the surface of the ground if you want it to last for the long haul and look perfect.

You could do metal edging to the grass. Personally I don’t care for it but it would take care of your problem

When yall walk on the path do you hop, skip, and jump?! Because that’s hilarious.

To answer your question, mow better. Trim correctly.

Could always make something with couple boards and 90degree angle. Follow the trimmer

Or you will always have to deal with that issue

Can you use polymeric sand around the edges?

I don’t know much about this particular gravel. But I am going to assume that you are going to be glueing rocks pretty regularly unfortunately. Maybe after some settling and shifting it will all lock in better. Maybe you will have to reapply a once a year rock glue. It looks great, no I don’t think you made a mistake. It will just take some extra maintenance.

Maybe you could try a less powerful string trimmer, might have less of a tendency to fling rocks if it is not a powerful.
