Can ya’ll help us figure out what this tree or shrub is? It started growing about a year ago in the spot where another tree used to be. My plant ID app suggested various chestnut and oak trees but that doesn’t feel right.
It’s about 6 feet tall, very fast growing. No berries or nuts that we’ve seen.

Looks like it might be a Mexican white oak, also called Monterrey Oak. Looks like it had a single trunk at one point and sprouted smaller ones around the dead central trunk. This happened to lots of oaks during our big freeze years ago.
My Monterrey Oak was damaged by my sprinkler head. The bark was eroded on one side. It is still living and seems to be recovering pretty well, but it started suckering, due to stress I speculate, and I’m not sure it will ever quit. I’ve read that once they start, they continue. My tree is 6 years old.
