Hello my friend has had this bonsai for 10+ years from a big box store. It recently has started to grow these bulbs for the first time since they've owned it, we thought maybe a ginseng ficus, but not sure what the bulbs are.

Thank you for your help

    The bulbs are figs.

Ficus can be difficult to ID, but Microcarpa is most likely, due to its popularity in bonsai. Retusa has blunt (obovate) leaves rather than pointed (acute) ones, so you can rule that out.

Are the leaves fuzzy at all normally? I see what looks like fuzz, but also a white spot that might be a mealy bug.
