The law in our state is that you are allowed to trim any foliage that comes across your property line. I live next door to a hoarder, and I need to somewhat regularly trim her foliage that encroaches on my home. Once I cut what's on my side of the fence, is there a way to hinder the growth in the future? Like perhaps treat the end of the small limb with something to slow or stop its growth? Again she's a hoarder and would not care or even notice that I've cut her stuff, and I guess since it is technically on my property, it has now become my foliage. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

I think I see a chain link fence?

Trim them even with that fence.

Any brush killer will affect her side and put you outside the law.

The best you can do is accept the fate and trim heavily.

Nothing you can put on them to stop. Buy an electric hedge trimmer and make it a part of your lawn clean-up like when weeding or weed whacking. Make them even with the fence.

No. You can trim whats on your side. Thats it.

I can’t imagine that’d be nessasary even if it was legal tho.

My property line looks similar and maintainence is once a year with a hedge trimmer. Not exactly high maintenance.

And seeing as your neighbour is a horder, I wouldn’t want to risk killing the beautiful hedge row separating her from you. Just trim it up flush with the property line and let it keep filling in, blocking her property from sight.

maybe you have other ideas but I actually think this is pretty lovely. It hides the chain-link fence! Even if you decide to trim it more geometrically with a flat side, I personally would not trim it to the chain-link. Why not hide it? Your call obviously but I see lots of potential here!

Electric hedge trimmer on a pole. Trim regularly and it’s an easy pass.

But no, they’re entitled to their own yard as well. You can cut back a bit further if needed as long as you aren’t doing damage. A bit past the fence if you like, but honestly it looks better than a chain link fence. Keep it trimmed and it’ll look good.

I offer to trim my plants on the neighbors sides and tell them the same thing.

Just enjoy the privacy and benefit of it

A moat would be my solution of choice. Fire breathing dragon optional but adds additional effectiveness.

Agree with most of the comments here. Trimming on your property is all in your baliwic. Stunting growth probably not an option. But trimming it to hide the chain link would be my choice. Leave 4-6 inches past the fence make it even and neat. IMO

TLDR, How do I kill my neighbors shrubs because i’m too lazy to trim? hmmm ok

stunting growth or using brush killer is considered an encroachment and tree law is no joke. Your only legal option is to trim.

These evergreens appear to be the most scenic part of your yard. Is it just the fact that they are THE NEIGHBOR’S plants that bothers you? Maybe plant some of your own in front of them if that’s the case, you will no longer see them. In my neighborhood we all have shrubs and trees crossing property lines, it’s not a big deal.

Have you talked to the neighbor? Asked if they would.mind if you shaped the hedge a bit? They might like the idea. They might not care one way or the other. They might say no. But that will inform your plans

Nope, find someone that does a good job and schedule them on the regular

Looks like invasive privet. Trim it off anywhere past the fence and keep watch for it sprouting up in your yard.

I’m dealing with the same thing from our neighbor, very old sweet couple but they no longer maintain their plants.

Twice a year I go out with hedge trimmers and snippers and hack away

I do lawn care and trimming people neighbor’s overgrown plants makes up a significant portion of my income

What if you send these pix to her and ask when she can address the over growth. And follow up with a lawyer.

Electric hedge sheers work great, just don’t hit the chain link fence.

Alternatively, a nice wooden privacy fence would look nice there.
