Hi all! I’ve had this BOP for a month now, i have not repotted from the store yet as I’m not sure what potting mix to use. It was doing beautifully until this past week the bottom started to die. Please help!! I use a light and water meter and watch it closely. Any advice? Her name is Beatrice and we love her.

Honestly, I think it’s probably fine, just adjusting to being in a new place. My BOP has been with me for over 5 years, but never looks as full as the ones in the store do because I just can’t meet the light requirements. When that happens, the plant doesn’t hold on to its older leaves, instead prioritizing putting out new growth. It doesn’t mean the plant is dying necessarily, just that it’s adapting to its new home. I would cut off any of the dead leaves towards the base, add a stake for the new growth, and keep an eye on it to see if the dropped leaves persist.
If it’s getting afternoon sun directly on the leaves, it’s probably gonna continue to burn up. Idk if the store had it in direct sun, but if not, I hope you acclimated it to that amount of light. Don’t mist the leaves; it’s humid enough here. Clean the leaves in the evening with a soft cloth moistened with a little water. You don’t want water on them while the sun is up.
Soil mix that I use: 1/3 soil, 1/3 perlite, 1/3 pine bark nuggets (or orchid bark). Use a pot that keeps the roots a bit snug & has good drainage holes. When you water it, drench the soil and let it flow through. Don’t try to water in small amounts.
Id repot and check the roots, it’s NOT doing great. My bop wants water everyday if the temps are above 85, mine stays outside in the Virginia heat
