So I’ve been noticing a few fungus gnats, basically like one in most rooms of my house. Could NOT figure out where they were coming from. This morning I noticed two really anemic new leaves on one of my monsteras, plus a yellow patch on a mature leaf. Pulled it out of the pot and it was in standing water, I was literally drowning the poor thing. 😱 otherwise gets proper light.

So I plan on repotting from the soggy soppy soil today but have a question re: mosquito bits. I’ve read it’s better to make a tea and strain out the bits, as opposed to sprinkling throughout the new soil. This poor dude does NOT need any more water for awhile! Also, the potting soil/compost I’ll be using has been sitting outside so almost certainly has some little critters (gnats). HELP! What’s the best way to go about this? Recommendations needed!

i’ve sterilized potting mix by pouring boiling water over it in a big stock pot, then draining it after it cooled. however, then you’d have to wait for it to dry out a bit again.

maybe just repot in the new potting mix, and water using the mosquito bits tea for the next few weeks? what mix are you using? monsteras prefer to have chunkier soil.
