Hubby bought me an airplant. Outside leaves were already dead, but inside is still green. Any chance I can save it or should I just buy a new one to put in the pot & start over?
If the center base is not mushy then it will be fine. It’s hard to tell from the picture when it is wet. Also, if you very gently tug the inner leaves and they don’t come off I think you will be fine.
New leaves are produced from the center and the outer leaves are the older leaves.
Edit: by put in the pot do you mean a decorative pot? Air plants don’t need to be planted in soil, so you can have fun with what you display them on (except for inside glass orbs/containers, airplants need ample air flow).

Gotta be honest, the dark patch in the bottom right picture doesn’t look good. Does it feel squishy and/or have a sweet but funky smell? Like the other comment suggested, do a tug test.

bottom right inside looks like dark/brown rot. Even if yhe inside rots, if the plant base is not completely rotted (all leaves fall off layer by layer) .. it can still produce pups. You just need to take care of it underdtanding that it will not “grow” anymore since half of the middle is now dead. However, the sides can still pup.
