I’ve been finding piles of dirt along the edge of my driveway/lawn and missing patches of grass replaced with a pile of dirt but haven’t seen an obvious hole until today. What makes a hole no wider then an inch across and can excavate this much dirt? Oklahoma City burbs. Sorry if this is wrong place for this post.

My guess is the Eastern cicada killer (Sphecius speciosus).

I’d grab a beer and a lawn chair and watch to see if they come/go.

They’re not very aggressive. Don’t grab it and you’ll be fine. Looks much more scary than they are.

Cicada killer nests. We get them next to our side walk/concrete too

Another vote for cicada killer. Just let them bee. They are not aggressive and the males can’t even sting

Looks like moles to me. Do you see any tunnels? If so next time it rains good enough to saturate the ground find the uppermost point uphill where there is a tunnel present and jam a water hose in there and wait for the magic with a shovel. If you’re not into killing you can scoop him up and liberate him in the woods or throw it into a neighbors yard you don’t gaf about.

Cicadas are the worst on the ceiling up high.

Cicada killers? Pretty sure we don’t have them in Oklahoma.

Pretty sure it’s moles or gophers. Simple trick i learned was to spread a good amount of Sevin granules, either right before rain or just water it in. It’ll kill the insects that are the rodents food source.

One by the pavers look like cicada killer but the ones by the drive look like moles.
