Hey yall, this one reminds me of lettuce (sorry the bottom of the pant is not visible) but I cannot remember ever seeing this before. The prickly pods at the top are pretty distinct. Now that I’ve spotted it I’m seeing it everywhere. Can anyone educate me on what this neato plant is?

if memory is correct, these were used to smooth raw cotton. or did I just make up that?
