First formally described by botanist N. E. Brown in 1884 in The Gardeners’ Chronicle, with an illustration appearing soon after in L’Illustration Horticole in 1885.
It is Endemic to Borneo—specifically regions of Sarawak and Central Kalimantan—Alocasia reginae is native to lowland rainforests with karst and alluvial soils.
