Hi all, first of all hopefully this is okay to post here, it seems to be the biggest / most active tree-related sub.
We bought a property last year, that has all these young walnut trees in some open grass beside a river. I don't have an exact count, but it's around 100 trees. 20'-30' tall, 3"-6" trunks (guessing off my impression from mowing around them).
I suspect that they are intentionally planted, but given how close some of them are to each other it seems like poor planning if you were trying to grow them for hardwood lumber. One of the pics also shows there are some much more mature trees as well, and those exist throughout the property, so maybe these sprouted naturally and the previous owner just cleared everything else away?
Me and my brother are both woodworkers, so it would be really cool if we could eventually harvest them. The only tree management I know is how to chop them up for firewood, so any advice on how best to manage these to one day get some good lumber or $ would be much appreciated.

Those are all volunteer trees provided to you by squirrels. If you want long-term healthy trees you need to thin them. If you want lumber quality trees you really need to thin them: [https://www.nrs.fs.usda.gov/pubs/misc/walnut/p98_101.pdf](https://www.nrs.fs.usda.gov/pubs/misc/walnut/p98_101.pdf)
