RESILIENT Black Isle gardeners are surveying the damage caused by Storm Floris ahead of a horticultural show in Rosemarkie this weekend.

The Black Isle Horticultural Society is hoping that Monday’s storm won’t cause too many problems for gardeners preparing for the Summer Show in Rosemarkie this Saturday.

Graham Sullivan, secretary of the BIHS, said: “Monday’s storm caused a lot of damage to flowers and produce, but Black Isle gardeners are a resilient bunch.

“We’re confident that they’ll manage to cope, and we’ll again have a magnificent display in the Gordon Memorial Hall. And of course the bakers, jam-makers, crafters and photographers hopefully won’t be affected by the weather at all.

“We’re keen to encourage people who haven’t exhibited at the Show before to enter, and we’re happy to help them set up their exhibits at the Hall, or to give advice if they get in touch. We’ve also got a special section for first-time entrants.”

“The show has sections for pot plants, cut flowers, fruit, vegetables, food, preserves, crafts, photography and botanical illustration, as well as Young people’s and First-time entrants sections. And of course there will be tea and cakes served outdoors on the lawn.

“As well as the exhibits inside the Gordon Memorial Hall, the popular Tub of Tatties competition will take place outside on the grass. Competitors will be emptying out the buckets they’ve nurtured their tatties in to see whose skills and care will win the prizes for the greatest yield.”

The Tub of Tatties emptying takes place at 2pm, and the doors open to the public at 2.30pm on Saturday, August 9 at the Gordon Memorial Hall, Rosemarkie.
