Will trimming the tops off of the dessert willows keep them more bushy and shrub like.. as pictured? They took off fast and I’d love for them to stay this size or smaller and stay full around the base. Is it possible?
Yes you can trim them and they will be more shrubby. It’s a very tough plant

Keep in mind this is a tree that wants to grow 15-20ft and not a shrub that grows 5ft. I’m no horticulturalist but I foresee it growing out of this shrub-like habit, or maybe even dying if it keeps struggling to grow. Or look like crape-murdered trees?
I love desert willow but don’t have the space, so I hope someone proves me wrong and says it can be done because Imma get one too 😁
