I received this guy in a mystery plant trade box and would love some advice for how to handle this odd branch. I was thinking chop and prop but the tendrils are throwing me off. How can I best grow this stick into a nice plant? I'm an experimenter and love a challenge but this one is confusing me.

This weirdo is actually in the curcurbit family. It’s a cousin of cucumbers and other curcurbits that use those tendrils to wrap around anything they can.

I have had this plant for several years. I do think chopping will be a good option for you because then you can make a fuller pot rather than the one long stick. One thing I will say is these can be a bit challenging to root. But now is a great time to do so. My experience with them is they only want to root when temps are high. You can root in water. But honestly my best experience with rooting them is to cut, dip the end in rooting hormone, poke a hole in some moistened soil and stick the cuttings in there and then leave it outside in a shady area and keep it evenly moist. After a few weeks, give the cuttings a gentle tug to see if they are rooted into the soil.

Let me know if you need more info!
