Public service announcement. Don't worry about the rules of lawn care, find what works for you and build on that.

Rules I break:
I water everyday in the summer, morning and evening.
I always cut more than a third. Usually 2/3 of the leaf.
I cut wet grass dues to watering every day.
I always bag never mulch.
I fertilize in the heat even 90+°F days.

I do three apps over the growing season of fungicide and insecticide rotating between chemicals to get a broad range of curative and preventative action. For fertilizer I do a half rate app every 3 weeks. This prevents burning and keeps the lawn dark green all season. I don't have to worry about fungus, bug damage, or drought stress with this schedule. It works for me.

  1. Your lawn makes me wish I lived back north again instead of the land of Bermuda in Texas. 🤣

  2. Massive_Squirrel7733

I’m afraid we can’t be friends anymore.

  3. Known-Computer-4932

There are rules specific to each yard and very specific rules that absolutely have to be followed. The herbicides, not following the rules can cause thousands of dollars in damage overnight.

  4. Psych_nature_dude

You would have the same results with less watering 🤷🏻‍♂️

  5. zombiebacchus

Very nice lawn. Such a deep green. I love it!

  6. SchoolOfYardKnocks

Can’t argue with results. You can pretty much do whatever you want if you water every day lol.

I don’t cut wet grass for the sake of my mowers and I don’t like dealing with a bag so I mulch. Cut often and dry because it’s easier and looks better. Cut in the afternoon for the above reasons and it gives the grass a chance to rest through the night.

But yeah if it works and you like the routine it doesn’t really matter that much.

Jesus Christ, you waste a lot of money!

  8. I too once pissed on the side of a building and received no ticket.

  9. We have an all white GSD too. They are the best.

  10. Cool, what state are you in and what grass type?

  11. You don’t have drought stress because your lawn gets watered twice a day…

The extra water helps reduce the stress of cutting too much at a time…which you have to do because I imagine it is nearly impossible to keep up with due to your fertilizer schedule

The extra water is required to keep up with the growth rate due to your fertilizer schedule

Fungicide is probably necessary due to your watering schedule.

Not saying there is anything wrong with what you are doing, it’s just that much of what you are doing is necessary because of other things you are doing.

This type of regiment creates a lawn that cannot handle diversity. I know a few people that have a similar program, and their lawns look great too… until they miss one application or god forbid they have an irrigation issue and miss a watering or two.

The “rules” you are breaking aren’t rules so to speak, but things you can do (or not do) to get good results without having to throw tons of resources (particularly water… not everyone is on well water) at your lawn.

I’m also in Colorado (central front range/I-25 corridor)and have an excellent looking lawn.

I am on city water and am only allowed to run my sprinklers three days a week.

I feed once in May and once in mid-late September with 14-5-5.

I have never had to apply fungicide, insecticide, or herbicide. (deep strong roots from deep infrequent watering make for a dense lawn that weeds can’t compete with)

I top dress with peat moss in the spring to de-thatch and aerate as needed (roughly every other year)

And I do sometimes take more than 1/3 of the blade, but I never cut below 4.5” and always early in the day so it never really causes me trouble.

I’ve maxed out on the deep green. Wish it got as dark as yours

  13. The lawn care practices that will ruin it for all of us.   Water every day, fertilizer in the heat, excess lawn clippings that won’t break down, leading to eutrophication of water sources,  Broad, non targeted use of pesticides and herbicides.  Way to go buddy, your the guy that people point too when they pass laws about this stuff.

  14. Qwertyham

Watering twice a day. Fertilizer every 3 weeks. I’m guessing you cut probably twice a week. Dude is speed running global warming lmao

I work in lawn care, and wiggles on a good turf add my favorite! Many thumbs to you 👍🏽

This makes me want to nuke my own and start over.

  17. Booftroop

Care to share what seed you’re working with? MA is getting too hot and humid during summer for my KBB/Fescue/Rye mix. Scorched my grass this year.

  18. BigOlFRANKIE

*thanks for helping conserve our nation’s water, big guy*

  19. theJMAN1016

Watering everyday solves issues and creates others.

    This post in a nutshell.

  20. Mikeinthereign

I look at it this way. Mine can only get better. Yours can only get worse.

  21. BAfromGA1

I too don’t follow the rules. I lay sod and overseed whenever the fuck I want and it’s yet to bite me in the ass. I’ve laid on July 3rd one time because jobsite was going to throw it away since no one was coming in the next day. Middle of a Georgia summer, it’s thriving beautiful grass now. I laid sod in December because again a crazy good deal I couldn’t pass up. I never watered the sod I laid in December, nature did but I never did not a single time. It was rooted by summer. I also overseeded in the spring and my neighbor “the grass god” laughed at me, and by summer time rolling around I had very minimal patches, plus the starter fertilizer mixed with the seeds did wonder for the Rhyzomez everywhere. It was an all around win, for me. I feel like folks that stick to the rule book are just scared. If I burn my yard, so be it. I know now not to do whatever I did. 😂

  22. I cut way, way, more than the top 1/3 of the lawn I mowed today.

Like I cut the top 90% off.

  23. wapanese_cheesecake

Compadre Zoysia here. Mine looks just as healthy without all the chemicals and fertilizer, mowed down to 2″, and watered once a week. You may be going overboard with your routine.

  24. Alt_aholic

You do a good job keeping dog stains off the grass, and grass stains off the dog.

  25. If I post your feet on feetfinder and make money. Do you want half?

  26. MajorEstateCar

If you’re paying this ,UCF attention to your lawn and working this hard, the rules don’t apply. The rules are for the people who have no idea what they’re doing and just want to “set it and forget it”

  27. Dear-Mud-9646

Bro. Those thighs look a little bit like shorts. Mark this nsfw. You also need to put your cock away.

I want to frolic in that grass ✨ it looks so soft
