It is dying, tip die back is an indicator of this. However, the rate at which it is dying could be debated. I mean aren’t all of us slow closer dying every day we are alive.
Was the tree company that recommended removal in the business of cutting down trees or are they arborists in the business of taking care of trees and preservation and only cutting when necessary?

It’s really hard to tell from pictures over the internet. For the most part, it looks healthy but there are some areas of concern.

The hole in the last picture might be of some concern depending on how much healthy wood remains in that area
