My wife bought and planted these a couple of months ago. They have seemingly grown but the flowers appear brown and dry, with the rest of the plant looking okay. She’s thinking it could be the type of soil used. I haven’t a clue. Does anyone have any tips to bring these back to life or any ideas what the cause could be? Thanks!

You’ve not put them in for very long and gardening is time and patience. Keep watering them and they’ll flower eventually. How much sun are they getting?

Looks like the flowers are just done now and need dead heading

They might well have already done with flowering. You can start pruning them usually August/September. Don’t prune too harsh though, as in don’t cut into old wood. You can take cuttings (non-flowering stems) now too! Also, fun things to do with dried ones are to make bath bags or bunch them up and dot them around the house

Flowers are done for the year. Cut them off and keep the ground moist. .

When you dead head them, shred them up and put them in small see-through bags and sell them to local teenagers #GardeningHack

French Lavender might not last the winter, so be ready for that , they’re really not hardy and flower early, Lavender Hidcote ( English Lavender ) would be the one you probably want to replace these with next year, all depends how the winter is but I’m forever replacing these in peoples gardens after a first winter, id also get some good liquid feed on them during the growing season up till the end of September, once every two weeks.

Soil looks really dry. Also you can deadhead those spent flowers and it will encourage new growth and new blooms

Nothing, it’s just finished it’s season. This is why I’m not a fan of French lavender, it doesn’t flower for long. Meanwhile our English lavender is still in bloom and will be into September!

You didnt think lavender flowered all year, did you?

Are you planting anything in between? French lavender won’t spread outwards to fill those spaces

Mine did this too. I’ve dead headed them and some have started flowering again. I’m hoping they’re just spending energy on roots, but we’ll see how they go.

  12. Just dead head them, the flowers are over, if we get some more good weather they may well flower again before winter. tbh it’s the wrong plant for the wrong place and possibly won’t look very good come mid winter and die off anyway. best to think of something else for next year.

Agreed, it’s absolutely fine atm, but possibly won’t survive the winter.

Have you been watering every day? It’s been really dry.

Looks like it’s finished flowering for the year. Time to cut it back to stop it going woody
