They discovered a man, aged in his 30s / 40s, trapped under the weight of a mini-digger. It is believed he was gardening prior to the incident.

It is understood that firefighters used specialist equipment to lift up the digger and take him to safety. Paramedics immediately began first aid treatment before he was taken to hospital.

It is thought that he suffered crush-type injuries to his lower body but they are not believed to be life threatening. It is not known how the incident happened.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí assisted other emergency services at an incident in Clonlara.”

A Health and Safety Authority (HSA) spokesperson said: “The HSA is aware of the incident and is making the relevant enquiries”.

Emergency services were met with a similar situation in Kilfinane last February when a wall fell on top of a blocklayer. He also suffered crush-type injuries to his lower body.
