Adult wasps can only feed on sugar, so put some apples out for them. In late summer they get less access to sugar from the hive so rely on access to fruit.
Does this lead to less wandering wasps flying into your home? Or does it increase due to every wasp in the neighborhood discovering your free buffet?

I had loads of wasps on my aphid infested apple tree, they got rid of every single aphid and have just disappeared. Not seen a wasp in my garden since 😂 I’m tempted to do something like this now though as they are amazing pest controllers

Lovely! We have a fig tree in the garden and they’re loving the fruit 🙂

I love wasps but they get so much hate. They’re apex ish predator, only spiders can get a wasp. They kill other beasties, they have great style and look badass every day, they don’t get scared and they give eye contact.
If they could answer incoming calls and use excel I’m out of a job.

Wasps only start feeding on fruit in large numbers once the hive disperses in late summer. After a hive has produced new queens and drones its job is done. The queen stops producing the pheromones which keep the workers in line, and the workers then all just leave the hive and do whatever the hell they like (which usually means gorging themselves on sugary things) until they die.
So unfortunately at this time of year wasps serve no helpful purpose at all, as they are no longer catching insects. They’re just stuffing themselves all day.

I had a small, probably young wasp on me the other day. Just chilling on my arm, my wife grabbed some bee feed we have and I sat there with the wasp on my arm, while it guzzled down some sugar water from the bee feed I got.
It stung me when it flew off 😂

Might look into this. I love wasps and hate the vitriol we put on them. Such misunderstood creatures that are key allies of ours

I usually say live and let live but not when it comes to wasps. They are extremely irritating and if they are in my house they are getting killed.
I think if you’re intentionally attracting them to your garden and they haven’t started invading your house yet you’ve been lucky and it won’t last.

I’ve got a little nest in my garden about 7ft from the house. They don’t bother us at all. You have inspired me to give them some fruit!

What the hell. We have so many wasps around every year, AND we always had black aphids noshing on our elder tree. They never touched the aphids and just instead got stuck in the house until I could escort them out the window 😅 Do we just have lazy wasps, or do they not bother with black aphids? 🤔
