Indoor lights do provide some uv rays. They must have adapted to what little they’re getting. I bet theyd go nuts if they got more sunlight!

If they are like many office plants at places where I have worked, they have a company that swaps them out every so often: they take these back to the greenhouse for a refresh and bring other prepared plants in their place. It’s popular in offices without much natural lighting.

Are they fake?

if i were to make a wild assumption, i’m guessing the white walls reflect a lot of white light which maximizes every bit of photon the plants could use to thrive. also, hotel lights are on 24/7 so that also increases the amounts of photons the plants are absorbing.
if i were arguing against what i just said, there’s only 1 bulb over each plant that’s maybe 10 feet away from the plant? that’s virtually doing nothing at all for the plant. is there a reflector behind each bulb? doubtful. pothos in these conditions would have 3~6 inches between each leaf node. so as some other(s) have suggested, the pots are probably swapped out. Holiday Inn is a brand that could afford to do that.

Plants can do OK with no natural light. I have a monstera in my office that hasn’t seen the sun in five years. It’s not thriving, but it’s alive.

I wonder about this all the time!!!! Office spaces or even grocery stores I see plants growing there week to week and I wonder if the bright office lights work!? So crazy

Potho’s nickname is devil’s ivy. Hard to kill. Low light, neglect, alright. It even stays green in the dark.
I have one in a windowless bathroom but do take out it for a week window visit about once a year. Mostly for care, trim, and maybe repot. Only gets ambient light which bounces off the bathroom mirror from about 50 feet away. Only one warm bathroom light and nearby hallway pot lights.
Perfect choice if you have a low light area. Still growing however it’s taking over my bathroom! Going to put a smaller one soon, move this one to another location.

They’re not. They survive as long g as they can and then they are swapped out..

LED lights contain enough of the grow spectrum to support low-need plants very well. Its likely all of those pot lights are LEDs

I had a golden pothos plant I bought off of Amazon in 2015 that lived in my entryway with nothing but the faint glow of light from the dimly lit bathroom for two years. After that, I moved and accidentally left it in my trunk for two weeks. I brought it in and it lived well for another year. It finally kicked it when I poured vodka into it out of curiosity. It then, passed.

i worked in an office for a couple of years that let people bring in houseplants for their desk if they wanted so i brought a couple of hoyas and sansevierias and they LOVED the fluorescent lights. grew like crazy. they were nowhere near a window.

I have a pathos that has survived living in rocky ground dirt that someone gave me as a house warming present. It never got replanted in the 8 years I had it, also no drainage in that dish either. Barely watered, and yet it lives on. Although I left it with my mom and she most definitely has killed it by now. 😞
Those plants can take a LOT of abuse.

Plants can still use and absorb the light coming from even basic light fixtures. The main problem is they are only getting a certain part of the light spectrum from those bulbs. Some plants do need the red and far red light to signal certain things, this is very plant dependant.
The last decade has seen a massive amount of advancement in LED lighting technology and with it prices for lighting fixtures have dropped dramatically. But there were many times in the past that new lighting was very expensive and growers who couldn’t afford the metal halite or high pressure sodium fixtures were simply using fluorescents and other everyday builds in their large grows.

I had a pothos at the front desk at a past job and there were no windows but that thing put out new leaves constantly. Last I heard from my old coworkers there it was still thriving.

Because pothos will thrive absolutely everywhere, except on my back patio with bright indirect light and lovely humid temperatures.

They just might be plastic !!

I read that office lights are actually more like grow lights now. I have a windowless office in an area with almost zero natural light and my pothos is thriving.
charlypoods
not even close to thriving but office lights are usually just LED bar lights, so even if far away it’s enough light to sustain them. they are absolutely not thriving though
JoiedevivreGRE
You’d be surprised how much light they are getting from the hall fixtures being on most of the day.

Pothos just do their own thing. Just existing over there. 🤣

The LED lights on for 15+ hours a day? The window on for 12 hours a day?
Training_Guitar_8881
Pothos are very very hardy plants and they are getting some light from the light in the lobby. They are quite beautiful.
