Well, welcome to the garden and we’re going to be doing some of um major harvests. I guess I’ll be harvesting more than just a a bucket or two of potatoes. They’re stuck in between the uh tomatillos. You’re in the pot with the tomatillos. We’re going to be harvesting some mint. It’s starting to flower. Um, I hadn’t started harvesting on this yet, but I think I’m gonna harvest it and dry it and give this harvest to the chickens. So, I’m just going to give it a good haircut. It’s really hot today. Um, I think this is like day five of 90° here in the Northeast. I’m sure it’s everybody’s having the same heat it seems like of most of the country. That’s good. Summer’s here. Oh, I have some parsley here, too. So, I can This is probably a little pass where I would want to eat it myself, but I think this would be good for the birds, too. We’ll give that a good haircut. There’s another one over here. I don’t know if you can see it. So, let’s come along and move you over on this side and we’ll hover some more mint. Now you’re in with the tomatoes. We’ll harvest some more of this mint. I don’t know what kind of mint this is. I think it’s a spearmint. Smells good. I like to um make um teas with mint. I just don’t even I don’t dry it during the season. I’ll just uh take this mint, put it in um a saucepan on the stove. Uh um with maybe like a couple uh cups of water and um steep that in the water for, you know, a good 5 minutes at least. And then I let it set and cool and then dump that into my um gallon uh container and add sugar if you want and more water. Um but that’s my favorite tea to drink all season. Let’s go see what else we have in the garden. All right, I found a couple of buckets of potatoes. I know we’ve done this uh two or 3 weeks ago, but you know, hey, we’ve already eaten those. I’ve gotten um 2 lbs of potatoes already, and we’ve eaten both of the um harvests. Uh I generally average about a pound a um bucket, but uh this one’s a little bit smaller. Um you can wait until the plants are completely dried back. Um, I don’t think that the potatoes are going to get that much bigger. The plants are already on the way out. So, let’s dump it out and see what we get. [Music] I love harvesting this way because they end up so clean and I don’t have to dig around in the dirt and wonder if I got them all. Oh my gosh, this one is huge. That’s the biggest one I’ve gotten. They all um so far have been about this size. And that’s the size that I um originally planted. I think I put like four or five in a in a bucket, you know, this size, a pot this size. When they’re this size, we call them new potatoes. And they’re just so tender and so good. Um, there’s a few rotten ones like that. Those are probably one of the original ones that I put in that just didn’t do anything. I think this was a mixture of a leftover bag of potting soil. Um, but a lot of um, see all the shavings in there. There was um, stuff that I cleaned out of the coupe. We’ll get these little ones, too. And if I was letting um the plant completely to die back and you wouldn’t even see any of it anymore. Um you wouldn’t have to snap these off of the um uh I forget what these are called. There’s a scientific name I forget. But you wouldn’t have to snap them off of this cuz these would already be dried up too. So, like I said, it’s a little early, but that’s not bad. That’s really not that bad. I have another bucket left. I’ll go get that and we’ll do that one, too. [Music] Sorry, the trash is coming late today. Another bucket about that same size. [Music] These are really pretty decent size. They look good. Um, you’ll notice sometimes you’ll harvest potatoes and there’s like I don’t know if you can see, can you see the little tiny white dots? Um, it’s not bad. You can still eat them. I don’t know. I don’t remember what that’s called, but it’s due to um excess moisture. Um and we’ve had a really wet spring, so that’s why I don’t know if you can see them better on that one. I don’t know if I should worry about those little tiny ones or not. What do you think? All right, that’s the that’s the harvest. Whoops. That’s the harvest from the two plants. Now, when you’re seeing on um social media and it’s like they’re harvesting 50 lbs out of a 5gallon bucket, like that’s not real. I mean, this is like a realistic harvest. You’re not going to get a ton of potatoes per plant. anywhere between um three goodiz ones if you’re growing, you know, some of the bigger varieties, but you know, five or seven potatoes is probably about average. So, let’s go and put some of those herbs in the dehydrator or we’ll find another project. We’ll see what we got going on. All right. And we’re right here next to the ladies. And they love this um oregano. So, I’m going to also trim back. They’ve eaten this oregano as far as they can stick their little necks out. Um and oregano is good for them. And if they have like respiratory things going on, so they can eat it fresh, they can eat it dry, they can eat it whenever. However, see, they love it. Oh my gosh, it smells good. So, we’ll cut a bunch of this. I thought that I was going to get my dehydrator out. and dehydrate it that way. But we’re going to have to just figure out something in the greenhouse because I don’t have any room. All right, we got a whole big bunch of uh stuff to go see if we can dry and get these get it ready for these girls. Like I said, they can eat this stuff um fresh, too. And I love it. Do you guys want it too? All right, let’s go into the greenhouse. All right, I found this. I used this to uh sift compost. Um, it did clean out pretty good, but just not as well as I was thinking. But it doesn’t matter. I’m not drying these herbs for our consumption. I’m just drying them for the birds. I’ll just lay it out here evenly. I generally don’t um pick this first harvest because my oregano gets like these spots. I don’t know what but seems to grow out of it later on in the season. So, all right. That’s the oregano. Put the mint on this guy. Oh, I dropped a potato. Wonder where I’m going to put the parsley. Might just have to sit on top here, but I’m going to be out here and I’ll um toss it around and make sure that stuff’s drying. Okay. there. Oh, it smells so good. You know, you know, I could tie these up in bundles and hang them, but I don’t have that system set up either. So, I think this will work. I’ll just come out and go like that every time I’m out here. And believe me, I’m out here multiple times a day. So, I think this will work. So, um stay tuned and I’ll let you know. Well, we got a pretty good harvest of some herbs and potatoes. I’m thinking that um I should start planting maybe some fall vegetables. And I know um in was it last week during the garden tour or the week before? It’s two weeks now. I had mentioned that my seeds got wet. Um and here’s some of them. I did um salvage some and we showed them in the garden tour. Uh most of them didn’t make it. I think three sweet corns are still looking okay. And one of the squashes um I think there’s like maybe six or something like that. But none of them would have made it if I just thrown the package out. So let’s go through this. I mean the packages are sticking together. I don’t know what I’m going to be able to salvage, if anything. It’s moldy. I can’t plant peppers now because it’s too I don’t have enough time. Let’s not fall. I can’t even see what I got here. There’s some oregano. Uh, lavender. There’s Holly Hawk. I think since I ripped that package, I think since I ripped it, I think I’m going to go plant those. Um, I think what are these? Oh, that’s chive. I’ll probably plant that, too, because it’s ripped. Um, oh, radish. That’s a good That’s definitely something for the fall garden. So that’s a definite tomatoes are tomatoes are miracles. Those are all miracles. Ooh, I think we can do a round of coriander. Probably definitely lettuce. We can do that. Um, these are onions. We’ll definitely throw those in. I almost don’t want to take them apart right now because the packages are so I did try these are um huckleberries. I tried growing them. I didn’t have much luck, but now I’m not going to be able to grow them at all. Maybe. Oh, [Music] let’s see. I don’t know what that is. [Music] I think that’s some more lettuce. So, that’s definitely going to go in. These are cucumbers. I can put some more cucumbers in. That’ll be fine. Um, cucumbers and squash and some and stuff like that. Um, I just succession plant that like every couple of weeks. Those are all peppers. I don’t have enough time for peppers. More lettuce. That’ll definitely go in. All right. So, I don’t know what any of this stuff is. Those are all saved seeds that I had. [Music] All right, I’ll just go throw that in the ground and I’ll let you know how that goes. So, I hope that you get sunshining where you are and that we’re growing together.
