These Redpointe Maple trees were planted 3 years ago and I realized they were planted too deep.
I’ve removed soil to expose the root flare but have many small roots that were growing up to the surface.
Can I trim these back down before mulching over this area?

Yes Clean tool and a bypass pruner. But they will die off by themselves.
