On August 28th and 29th from 11am-3pm, The Orchards will be opening its gate to anyone with an interest in gardens and horticulture; or for those who just love homemade cake and tea.
The Orchards in Huby
It is opening at part of the National Garden Scheme, which raises over £3m every year for charities such as Marie Curie and Parkinsons UK.
The Orchards is an Arts and Crafts house built in the 1920s and the garden has original elements from that period. There are also contemporary sections designed by the award winning landscape designer, Lizzie Tulip.
The two acre site features a formal arts and craft section with stone balustrade and staircase, a subtropical area showcasing plants becoming easier to grow in our warming climate, a woodland walk, a fernery making use of a derelict Edwardian potting shed, young orchard, raised vegetable beds and a wildlife pond. A greenhouse where tomatoes, chillies, cantaloupe and even okra and papaya are grown is definitely worth a visit.

And if looking around someone’s garden isn’t enough for an afternoon trip, there will also be plenty of homemade cakes, teas and coffees being sold to raise funds for North Rigton Primary School.
Entry for adults is £5/person. Children go free. The garden is only a ten minutes walk from Weeton station. On road parking. The Orchards, Crag Lane, Huby, LS17 0BW.
