I left a wee patch of nettles at the bottom of my garden and they are currently covered in caterpillars. Hoping to see my garden gain even more butterflies in the coming weeks

You can also eat with nettle, it’s so good for you!

And you can pick them, submerge them in water in an airtight bucket (I use old chicken manure tubs) and they will give you high nitrogen fertiliser about a month later. I mean, it absolutely stinks but it works really well!! 🤣

Stinging nettle is a larvel food plant for 5 UK butterflies – Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell, Red Admiral, Comma, Painted Lady

It is also used by over 25 moth species.

Plus dozens of other insect species.

Stinging nettles are genuinely one of the best plants wildlife gardeners can cultivate.
