This is my tillandsia pup from a tillandsia I bought 8 years ago this one I'd about 5. Is it dying? The reason I ask is because it's so curly. I soaked it for hours to see if it would unfurl a little bit, but it hasnt done. It used to be a deeper green colour, too.

From what I understand, you’re only supposed to soak for about 20 minutes once a week. Too long, and they soak up too much water and cause rot. Are you soaking it upside down?

It looks healthy to me. Was this physically attached to the base of the parent plant? It looks more like a seedling than a pup. Especially if it’s 5 years old. I would guess it’s not the same species or hybrid, rather a hitchhiker that’s something else entirely.

If it’s an actual pup, what is the parent species/hybrid?

Well I read that this particular plant needs more of a soak. I dry them upside down in an empty egg carton. I have two of these, but they’re about in the same shape.

My other air plants I just dip them once every two weeks and they seem to like that schedule.
